I’m beyond excited. These guys are the best. The album will be called Heaven Is Whenever and it will be coming out around May 4th. Save the date!!!

From theholdsteady.net:
Singer Craig Finn says Heaven Is Whenever is about “embracing suffering and finding reward in our everyday lives.” Piano and keys take a backseat to guitar on the new record, which also gets production help from guitarist Tad Kubler.
Recorded in several smaller sessions spread out over a long period of time, the songs on ‘Heaven Is Whenever’ received the benefit of being tested on the band’s recent tours. As Finn says this allowed them to “see what was working and what wasn’t. I believe this record benefits from us working at a more deliberate pace.”
The tracklisting for Heaven Is Whenever is:
1 The Sweet Part of the City
2 Soft in the Center
3 The Weekenders
4 The Smidge
5 Rock Problems
6 We Can Get Together
7 Hurricane J
8 Barely Breathing
9 Our Whole Lives
10 A Slight Discomfort
And from Pitchfork.com:
Talking about the record in a press release, guitarist Tad Kubler said, “I think this is a guitar heavy record. But I would NOT say this is a heavy guitar record. The main objective being not to make the same record as the one previous. I love Boys and Girls and Stay Positive. But they have a very similar feel and sound.” He also cited jazz composer Terence Blanchard and Jon Brion as influences. Meanwhile, singer-lyricist Craig Finn calls Heaven Is Whenever “less anthemic and more complex.” Sounds like there may not be as many “whoa-oh-oh” hooks this time, eh?
Can’t wait! Here is a great old song by the guys for those who’ve never heard them (and for those as excited as me!). Some lyrics to the song, “Chips Ahoy,” are below. Lead singer Craig Finn used to have addiction problems, so a lot of the songs are about past experiences. I think he’s clean now, so it must be good therapy to get it all out.
A got a girl and she don’t have to work
She can tell which horse is gonna finish in first
Some nights the pain killers make the pain even worse
Came out six lengths ahead, we spent the whole next weekend high
I love this girl but I can’t tell when she’s having a good time…

_______________________ About the author: Matt I have a lot to say about a lot of things. All you have to do is ask. Some day I want to live like this: "I can gather all the news I need on the weather report. Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile." - Simon and Garfunkel "The Only Living Boy in New York" I love cereal, American politics, and jogging with my headphones on. I have a major weakness for electro-indie music (Postal Service, Owl City, Passion Pit, Ratatat, The American Dollar, BT, MGMT, Swimming With Dolphins) and an equal weakness for acoustic/soft-indie (Bon Iver, The Tallest Man On Earth, Sufjan Stevens, Colin Hay, Alexi Murdoch, and all the music from the movie Once.)
