Cool Stuff of the Day 12/30

I’m not sure if I’m going to stick with the post title in the future, but I’m going to try to post random cool stuff more often. Not too many rants, I promise.

• I found a cool mash-up of “Top 25 Hits of 2008″ (Pop and rap type stuff, the Billboard Top 25.) The artist, DJ Earworm, calls it “Viva La Pop.” Here for the website. Here for just the mp3 download of the song. Here is the YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLaZ-8IMtt0.
• Another mash-up by the same artist can be found here. It’s called “No More Gas.”
• Neat site to create logos: LogoInstant. I’ve seen some logo sites before, but this one is about a million times better than any of those. It allows you to download logos than can be opened in graphic design programs (Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator,) so that you can insert your own text or change up the colors. Sharp looking stuff.
• Found an article about mash-ups artists. It talks about the split between the Girltalk style and the “song-writing oriented” style of the songs above. Read it here.
• Uconn lost to Georgetown. At Hartford. Bullocks.
• Ben Gibbard and Zooey Deshanel are reportedly engaged. Might be the coolest musical couple ever. (Move over Sonny and Cher…and Donnie and Marie).
• I wish the whole Israel-Palestine thing would be more like You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. I know, I’m a political science major, but that’s all I can come up with about this mess.
• Weather update: My house is freezing. It might snow tomorrow somewhere in Connecticut area. And the wind kept me up all night. It was crazy.
• Pet peeve of the Day: people who are so afraid of being boring that they pretend everything is better than it is. You know, the type who say “Oh wowww, that tastes delicious!” when “it” in fact tastes pretty average. The sad, and fairly ironic, thing about it is that this behavior ends up making them more boring instead of less. If everything is supposedly incredible then nothing is actually incredible because it is all the same. End of rant.
• Today has already become our busiest day ever at CtheH. 156 hits as of noon. It’s mostly because of a previous Ben Gibbard post combined with the news of his engagement, but…I’ll take it. On a broader scale, December has been our busiest month ever. Thanks everyone, and keep coming back because it’s only gonna get better.

I’m headed to Madison all day tomorrow for New Year’s Eve. I’ll try to get a post in, but in case I don’t- Happy New Year from CtheH!
